Welcome to the STTACC website.

The STTACC Executive Board had its winter meeting via ITV on February 20, and several things, of interest to you all, were discussed. Probably the most interesting topic of discussion was the 2009 Annual Conference. Here's what we know about that, so you can all start making plans to attend:

  1. The conference will be on Thursday, August 13, and Friday, August 14.
  2. The theme of the conference is It's Not Easy Being Green.
  3. Accommodations will be at the Clearwater Resort, in Suquamish. I checked it out on the net, and it looks pretty awesome!
  4. The conference itself will be at the Kiana Lodge, just about a mile from the Resort, and it looks like transportation is available between the two sites. Both sites look just beautiful! One of the two conference coordinators, Karen Hemmerly, says, "This is a beautiful venue with easy access from all points. The resort has a breathtaking view along with a wonderful pool and spa. The lodge has a large yard and access to the beach for relaxing between sessions and during breaks."

We also discussed The Plain Brown Rapper. Tim Anderson, our editor, would like to change the name of our publication; and we agree with him. But, we don't know what to name this publication, so we're asking for your help. We're having a contest to determine the new name for the Rapper. Here are some of the Rename the Rapper contest details:

  1. All entries must be submitted by 5:00 p.m., on July 15, 2009.
  2. All entries must be submitted to Tim Anderson, tandersongreenriver.edu. with the subject line of Newsletter Name.
    * Include your Newsletter Name,
    * your Name and College,
    * and the thinking behind the name.
    For example: Title: "The Fancy Green Rapper" Submitted by: Pat E. Wack, Green River Community College Reasoning: Because it is now fancy and is trying to go green.
  3. The first twenty entries received will receive a STTACC Portfolio and a STTACC pen.
  4. The winning entry will receive a paid registration to the STTACC Conference in 2010, which will be in Spokane.
  5. The winner will be determined at the Annual Conference in August, 2009.

Another topic of conversation, also concerning The Plain Brown Rapper, was the cost of sending out paper copies of the publication. At our last annual conference, it was determined that we would continue sending paper copies of the publication to member colleges, in addition to having the publication available on our website. Due to increasing budget woes, the Board is considering maintaining the Rapper on the website and sending paper copies to only those colleges who request them. We will vote on this at the Annual Conference.

Spring is right around the corner, so that means it's the time of year to be thinking about your colleagues! Who do you think would be a good STTACC officer? Maybe you'd be a great STTACC officer! And who's the most outstanding classified employee with whom you work? Is it you? Is it the office assistant who sits next to you? Maybe it's the IT tech who always gets you out of a jam.

I will be sending out requests for nominations for Exemplary Staff Awards; one outstanding classified employee from each region will be recognized at the Annual Conference in August. Marlene Cortez, President Elect, will be sending out requests for nominations for 2009-2010 STTACC officers. Positions to be filled include: President Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Rapper Editor, and Coordinators for Regions A, B, C, D, and E. New officers will take office at the Annual Conference.
